This image of the tricolor heron was taken yesterday as he was approaching his nest. There was only time to captured a couple images as I did not see him until that last couple of seconds.

Nikon D300,
Nikon 300mm F2.8
ISO 1000
1/40000, F8

All comments are much appreciated.

Sharp as always and a cool but somewhat awkward pose. #1 tip to improve it: select the iris with a QM and lighten it with a Curves Adjustment on the layer (Contrl M). (Thanks to Robert O'Toole for sharing that technique).

Hey Judy!

I was trying to get one of these guys but they wouldn't cooperate while in the air. :(

You did really well, sharp, nice detail and nice action. I only wish for separation of the left wing and head but I sure wish I had one like yours to take home!

Hi Judy,

Not an easy subject to photograph in flight. You did an excellent job but I have to agree with George as far as the wing separation. Either way, you did what you could in that situation.

Very nice Judy,
Love the details and colors on your subject; a funky looking flight angle, but I like it...:D

I love this image, and what I love even more is the amount of detail you've got in the bird within the focal plane, but do agree on the eye.

Not sure if am correct or not, but I assume shutter was really 1/4000 and not 1/40,000?

Fantastico pose and action Judy. Love the way the BG colour compliments the plumage.
