On a recent trip through northern Idaho, I encountered these magnificent western red cedars in the Bernard Devoto Memorial Cedar Grove. They are on Highway 12, on the west side of Lolo Pass, 12 miles from the summit. The larger trees may be over a thousand years old. Devoto was a 20th century American historian who wrote a popular abridged edition of the Lewis and Clark journals in mid 50s. The grove is along the most difficult part of Lewis and Clark's journey. Devoto camped here often. His ashes were scattered in the area after his sudden demise in 1955. A bit of Fractalius was applied..

Really nice Gary, the bit of Fractalius enhances the edges in a natural way. You really captured the scale of these trees, would make a nice poster. I like the tonal range and color.
