Nikon D300 w/Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 vr micro lens, hand held. Lens-mounted twin SB-R200 flashes for illumination in shade.
ISO 400; f/22, 1/60 sec.
Standard CS6 adjustments

These hornets can be aggressive and unpleasant. Fortunately for me, this one and others like it were more interested in what they were harvesting from the tree than me. Other species of insects, however, were not so fortunate. They weren't harmed but were repeatedly driven away by the European hornets from the material they were harvesting.

All comments and suggestions are as usual welcome.

This view allows us to see the hornet eating or sipping the sap, which I like. Nicely done.

Norm, yes this is the one for me, good top see him/her feeding.. I certainly wouldn't want to upset this wasp!!

Very nice details on the hornet. They are attracted to sweet things so maybe sap is the attraction.
