Drake Common Merganser doing a wing flap at the edge of the receding ice at a nearby lake. The ice is an integral part of the image, IMO, as it sets the time and place (i.e., early spring in the north country). Photographed from a vehicle using a BLUBB. 40D, 500 f/4, 1/1000, f/5.6, ISO 400. Comments are welcome.

Fully agree on the ice Steve !!!! This one has a great feel I like the color of the ice very much, angle is low enough, good detail in the dark feathers and caught him flapping !!! Only seeing more of the other wing would have been better !!! I like this a lot !!!! btw did real well on the whites !!!!

What a mood to this image. Although the ice shows the season, the warmth of the light announces the proximity of good weather. Well done :)

I like that description Fabs!! Great image of this very skittish bird (for us anyways).

Great picture, like the composition and lighting.
Seems like a tough exposure to manage, at least for me, bright whites and dark head, but you did not have any troubles.
