Here's my final post of this hopper:

I was lucky to get the eye and mouthparts sharp and avoid clipping mouthparts or antennae while hand holding this one! Un-cropped at about 2.5:1. Lost at this small image size, but individual lenses on the compound eye are clearly visible in the unsized image. I cleaned up some specular highlights out of the water drop and added a touch of vibrance. Equipment and specs as in prior posts of this subject.

All C&C welcome and appreciated.

This is pretty impressive, I really like this close up view, the sharp mouth parts really make all the difference. There is a front leg that is blurred but to me that does not matter becasue all the interest is in the head. I like how you managed to get the right antenna in the frame - well done.

Hi Mitch... great shot... detail is superb... agree with Jonathan on the comp... maybe a more front on shot would have worked... would have like to see what equipment and setting was used... otherwise WD!

Thank you both. The fact that that front leg is blurred doesn't bother me, either, but I wish it were not quite so close to the mouth parts.

Here are the technical details, Jason:

1/160 sec at f/11 and ISO 100
EOS 5D II
65 mm macro lens at approx 2.5:1
twin macro flash
hand held

Great "in-your-face" POV! Fantastic detail on the head! I have sometimes been successful in gently moving body parts of an insect with a thin piece of grass, if a leg, etc. is really blocking an eye or head.

Hi Mitch. Much better with the full face in focus and the highlight removed from the water drop! Looking forward to more!
