Just as I was going out to photograph loons a couple weeks ago, I saw this mayfly in the water and thought, Why not?
Nikon D7000, 300mm f/2.8 + 2x tc
f/7.1, 1/800, ISO 500
Handheld from a canoe
Cropped, but otherwise I didn't touch it.
C&C welcome!

Hi Kirk, this image gives a unique perspective - reminds me of my trout fishing days. I really like the reflection and the wavy smoothness of the water. You could play around with contrast/sharpness but this is a fine image as is IMO. - Allen

This is an interesting and original image. Well seen. I think the composition would be stronger if you crop from left.

A good grab shot, I don't know how much sharpening you applied but maybe a little more would help. Focus looks good and I like the reflection and the foot in the water surface.

Hi Kirk. I can't recall seeing an image of a mayfly in the water before. I like the nearly head-on view, the low shooting angle, the perfect reflection, and the way the front leg is indenting the surface tension of the water. I'd be curious to see how this would look if it was just a bit darker overall - might be something you could experiment with. Nicely seen and captured!
