Another shot of the last remaining oyster catcher chick shortly before it perished.
This was shot on a cloudy day with my Canon 1DMIV
500mm f4 lens with 1.4X
ISO 1600 f11@1/250

Very sweet, Cheryl. It's one of those image that gets better and better the more I look at it.

Sweet image but sad story.
What happened to it?

Thanks everyone. Joe, we are not sure but they had two chicks and they both came up "missing" about two weeks apart from each other. Most likely a predator

Gorgeous IQ Cheryl, sorry to hear about the little one. So it is with nature.

You know this story breaks my heart, Cheryl. Hard to look at it, knowing of its fate. But it's one sweet portrait of these two. Your depth of field is awesome, and the exposure, sharpness and comp all rock. Nice work.

Thanks Jack and Melissa. Melissa it made me so sad as well. Especially since I saw them only weeks before perfectly fine and sweet.

I love the colors in this shot.
Great title.
Your techs are great as well.
This is a terrific shot and I can't help wishing that the chick was in front of Momma's leg but that is a minor nit. But then, if it was in front of the leg it wouldn't have that "tucked in" protected feel. I love the look Mom is giving you as well.

Too bad about the chick. Guess that's just part of nature....
What a great capture. Just a perfect setting, and great use of DOF. I think the low green running plant really balances the composition. Might be in Mom's shade, but it was great to get a catch light in the chicks eye.

I am in Grace's camp, that the more I look at this one, the more I like it. Your PS work on this one is top notch. The vegetation looks so darn good. Really super details!

I like it a lot and I personally like the placement of the chick behind Mom.
It gives a more protective look to it.
This is one photo where I might have centered the subjects.
