I wish we had birds that colour over here. I generally like this image.
One thing I notice is that the eye is not sharp but the breast is. I think this is where you may have focused. I think you could have reduced your shutter speed to increase the depth of field with the bird being perched. Of course I don't know how much the bird was moving.
I would also consider cropping the right of the image to remove the twigs and leaves.

I am only learning myself so please see what others thinks as well.

beautiful bird. Iain already pointed out that the eye and beak are not sharp. I'd check to see where you focused. For a small bird, f6.3 should be OK. The head angle is not ideal as the bird is looking away from you a little bit. If possible, I'd wait for the bird to turn towards you a little bit before pressing the shutter. BG is good, except for a large blotch of dark area. If you take a small step to the left, you could have avoided this black spot. Loi

Did I get the head sharper in this photo? Taken at TX SP two weeks ago.

Yes, you can see some of the individual feathers near the head. The photo could take some sharpening too. How did you sharpen your image? Loi

I have and try to use different ones.

Have LR5, PS-cs6, Nikon Capture NX2, and NIK.

Use LR5 most of time.

I begin to think it's my eyes or monitor, as they look fine to me when I post.

But after someone points things out I see it then.

Thanks again
