Little Lost River, SE Idaho, mid June, Nikon D7100, Nikkor 600mm, f5.6, 1/320, iso 1600. All of the dippers favorite midstream perches had white rocks in the bg. First post in this forum for a while. I've been hanging out in Out of the Box. C & C appreciated.

Gary:

Very sharp with nice feather detail. The wet rock helps tell the story, and brightens the image a bit.

How have you been liking the D7100? I tried one, but found the focusing inconsistent.

Cheers

Nice to see you in Avian Gary! Nice "fluffing up" pose, and that perch is quite unique...I also like that it is wet. Focus looks good, but to me the fine detail are starting to look stretched...perhaps a big crop? I'd have also tried going even lower to prevent the dark line in the BG from crossing behind the head.

Lovely details and angle. Really like the effect of the wet rock and seeing the feet.

Thanks to all for the C & C. Randy, the D7100 is newly acquired and we are just getting acquainted. Daniel, the image was cropped from 6000 x 4000 to 4370 x 3300. Perhaps noise accounts for some of the lost detail in the subject. At iso 1600 there was a fair amount of noise. I removed the bg noise with Nik Define2 and left the subject alone.

I like the Fluffed up bird and the composition works nicely on here
the bright rock is nice too.
I am still trying to see my first Dipper
