It is amazing how they are able to hear every little thing that moves around. I wish I could have gotten a perfect even background but sometimes we just don't have that opportunity. This was the only shot I had taken for that brief moment.

The BG works for me -- it suggests the complex environment these creatures live in.

A very pleasing image. It is a pitty it is centred though. The background is to die for and trumps an even background for my taste any day. I think you might do some work on the bird to make it pop a bit more.

Hi Troy, I like the environmental shot here and the BG works for me too. I can see where putting the bird off center could cause problems (cutting off some greenery) but I am wondering how a crop from the left would look.

lovely image Troy! like the image as presented. good details & pose.
the center comp seems apt as the bird is almost looking straight &
the leaves on either side of the perch lends balance to the frame.

One of the few times I think a centered image works nicely, in particular because of the sprigs of greenery each side to balance the whole image. Bird has a grumpy look on it's face, I like that character in a shot, but it looks a little soft.

Troy,

The stare makes this image! I don't mind the central placement of the subject, as I think the diagonal perch offsets that a bit.

I think the bg could be improved a bit by cloning out the blue on the top right. Otherwise, I think it works well.

Thank you all for the comments. I am ok with the centered compositions as I feel that the two plants balance it out nicely.

Troy;

I agree, that with the perch and greenery, this is the best comp.

I also would consider cloning out the little patch of blue, because it does really jump out against the other tones, and because the bird is small and in muted light.

Cheers
