This juvenile stilt sandpiper was photographed during a fall migratory period, (late August), in Duluth, Minnesota. The background features a distant island that has eroded hill faces that show as reddish clay/dirt.
SonyA300, Sigma50/500, iso400, f9, 1/1000, cropped, adjusted levels and contrast, NR selectively applied, USM selectively applied. Comments and critiques welcome.

Shawn Zierman.

Hi Shawn, love the low angle, and captured in soft light. I do like the one legged pose, and Im fine with the two blades of grass jutting out the water. Overall, the colours are great.

Excellent light!. Sharp details and good exposure, maybe BG a bit vivid for some [not me]. Very shallow DOF for f9? Great shot

Shawn:

Well exposed, good pose, angle in frame. I like the sense of distant shore, but might very slightly lower the luminosity of the brown spot above the head.

The saturation is right on the borderline for me.

Nice shooting angle.

Cheers

This is a stunner, Shawn. Your feather details are just awesome and your bird just pops against that blue BG.

I just love the colours and low angle here. I'd sharpen the head some more?

Gotta love the array of colour in this ....all pink and blue...just missing the primrose too { you may not get that slightly altered well known saying, lol }

Thanks for the feedback.
Brian, I'm only about 11 feet from the subject. With the Sigma50/500, f8 is the minimum aperture that you can use to get decent bill tip to tail DOF coverage/ sharpness, at that working distance...

I love the raised foot with the toes still showing. Awesome low angle, great colours, and I'm glad you kept the blades of grass.

This is lovely. Very peaceful and serene. Love the tucked in foot and the light and the low POV.
I like the in focus grass but would personally get rid of the OOF grass ( personal thing, of course)
I might also gently tone down the brownish circle just above the head to move it away from the head but that is minor issue,
Gail
