There is an area along the coast of Cape Town where these penquins frequent. - Boulders beach. On this particular morning they werent very active, and I wanted to try and capture them against a surf BG, but it wasnt possible at the time.

Beautiful portrait against a backgrond that has a very nice flow to it. Good light quality for a black and white feathered bird too. Exposure is perfect.
DOF on subject looks spot on. Did you post process any blur or softening using NR selectively on the background?

Thanks Girish. I slipped up. Jackass is the old name. Ive revised my title to the proper name of African Penquin.

Thanks Shawn. Yes, I blurred the BG as it was competing with the penquin. Obviously a sea/surf BG would have been ideal. :w3

Thank you everyone else for the feedback and comments.

Nice job on the exposure Stuart, perfect. Great detail in the dark and light. I like the pose and the feather detail is beautiful. Stands out nicely against the green BG. Well done!

Hi Stuart - excellent detail and exposure. I like it against the grass too. Having been to Boulders a few years ago I can imagine the difficulty of getting a shot against the sea. Are you still restricted to the walkways at Boulders? I understand you have a bit more freedom of movement at Betty's Bay but have not been there.

TFS,
Rachel

Love the pose, excellent exposure, and sharpness. I'd consider cloning out the gray area of the BG and making it a little more uniform.
