This young Green Heron flew in and landed by me yesterday as I was shooting ducks.
I can never get near them and was trembling at my good fortune.

Great pose and excellent IQ Dan. Sometimes it happens, one flies in, that is.
Almost the same happened to me ones, except I was shooting shorebirds.

Congrats on the nemesis, Dan. Terrific pose. This is what all those hours in the field are about, hoping for that elusive event. And hoping that you'll be ready for it when it happens, as you were here.

Kudos for being able to take advantage of the luckt. For me, the greens in the BG compete with the lovely bird, and I'd tone them down, and crop enough off the right to get rid of the more detailed leaves in the UR. Probably would darken the perch, too.

Hi Dan, glad you didnt miss your opportunity. Well timed for the behavioural scratch, and nicely separated from the BG.
