A bit of a grab shot as I was walking back to my car after an outing in some local fields when this kingbird landed on a low evergreen. Took a couple of frames, checked the histogram (which was too dark), quickly dialed-in some light while hoping the subject would stay in place (it did) and fired off a couple more before it flew off. Cropped a bit top and left, but otherwise this is original vertical composition.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/7.1, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, deepened the blacks and midtones, darkened the pupil.

Very nice image, with painterly quality (in a good sense) Daniel. Love the pose and the perch is awesome.

Nice pose and comp and love the perch!

The blacks and mid-tones could be deepened a bit more for my taste.

Beautiful perch (and bird, goes without saying). What would you think about adding just a little more canvas on the right, to get the "candle" or whatever it's called just a little further from the edge? Looks like it might be an easy addition.

Your vegetation and comp really make this image special, Daniel. I can't believe it wasn't a set up!!!

For me this is all about the perch. How nice of him to choose this spot for you (and for you to be quick enough to capture it). Nicely done. Yes to Diane's suggestion for just a slivver on the right.

Other than a bit more room on the right and bit more below (for the cones on the right) this one is both perfect and artistic.

Daniel, That perch is amazingly beautiful. Glad he gave you time to dial in the exposure, as I enjoyed seeing this one.

I am really liking this one, spot on exposure and detail, love the greenery, the high key is perfect here.

Wonderful image! How you managed to keep detail in the white throat against a white BG is beyond me. Developing cones are fabulous.

I dont think you do setups but the last few posts are so good that they look like ones. The colors of the conifer look great with the monochrome colored Kingbird and BG. Very painterly is right. Nice work.
