I must be a slow learner because I can't figure out if I need to have
Continue focus search ON or OFF
Stop focus search ON or OFF when using my 600mm II
I am using the 1DX,
Gail
This confusion started after I read a thread somewhere that Stop focus Search should be OFF for superteles but when I read the manual it says it should be ON?

I think you are talking about focus search.

OFF means the camera will not scan for focus if it is in an extreme de-focus situation.

it should remain ON.

So
"Continue focus search is ON
and
"Stop focus search " is ON?
Are both ON ?

which custom function are you talking about?

under AF-4

continous focus search : ON

Stop focus search: OFF

ignore what the manual says, you are using the focus limiter on the lens so hunting does not happen.

The camera body manual is on drugs. I disagree with the knowledgeable Arash here as there are specific times when I set Focus Search On to Off. Knowing when to do this can bequite beneficial. I actually have it one of my My Menu choices. I do not set it to Off often but again, there are times when it rocks. All is detailed in our Camera User's Guides for the 1D X and the 5D III for sure. And I think for the Mark IV and the Mark III as well. I can check on the latter when I get home if anyone would like to know for sure.
