Taken in August 2012 just as the light started hitting the hills surrounding our camp.

Canon 5D3
70-200 II @ 102mm
1/160
f14
ISO400
HH, cropped to 16x9, luminosity mask, levels, curves, LCE, selective color adjustments, Nik detail extractor, Hougaard Malan action and sharpened for web in CS6.

C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel, very nice first light on the hills and great details in the shadows as well. You have applied just the right amount of the detail extractor as it does not look over done...something I find is easy to do with that tool. I also like how you have arranged the hilltops within the composition. TFS.

Classic composition and gotta love that light.
It's a harsh landscape which you have portrayed well.

Hi Rachel, very nice, like the warm tones & detail in this.

Have you tried using an adjustment in Levels regarding the black & white sliders as I mentioned to you to pin point the adjustment, as I think you could marginally move the white to around 243, but just personal voice. :S3:

Thanks Morkel, Andrew and Steve, much appreciated. Steve - I had looked at it but felt it lost a little of its warmness.

Thanks again,
Rachel

Hi Rachel, I am a sucker for red dirt and warm light... Lots of that in the northern part of western Australia and this looks very similar. I like the level of detail you have achieved, well done. My only reservation and its minor is I would have preferred to compose the shot with the foreground shadowed area in the same light as the hills... Not sure this would have happened in the available time frame but...DON

Gorgeously warm light! Only wish for some clouds in that sky!
