Photographed this pair last week while they were taking turns bringing food to their nest. As one would land on the tree with food (as seen on the left with a morsel in its mouth), the other would stick its head out and then take off to allow its mate access. I thought this turned out to be a fun picture. Did some burning of the tree trunk.

Canon 1D4, Canon 500L & 2.0
F11, 1/1000sec, ISO 800, manual mode
Feisol tripod, Jobu head

C & C always welcomed and much appreciated.

Marina, what a fun picture! Perfect exposure for both the black and the white, tack sharp even with a 2X (thanks for reminding me to stop down whenever I strap a 2X on), sweet BG. Loi

I agree, Marina, nice image that tells the story. Any little ones peeking out yet? That will be really fun!

Wonderful! Love the detail on both birds. The small oof part of the trunk below the birds keeps drawing my eye. I had one of these show up at my house for an afternoon once, but never since.

Such an original image for this species. Well done in most every regard. A slight head turn towards us for the bird emerging from the nesthole would have been even better imo. Their heads are aligned so perfectly, that it does almost appear to be a two headed bird.
