Superb environment image and blacks in the anhinga are well handled. I like this one a lot!

Love the framing of this shot and the moss adds alot too. Nice exposure. I think I notice some slight artifacts around the bill - may want a second look there. Well done.

You put a lot of thought into this image, and it works very well. Love the environmental feel and I really like your placement of the bird and its pose.

Thanks, Marina.
I actually put some thought into when I took it.
Every bird photographer should go shoot with a short zoom lens.
I learned on this trip to maximize every opportunity.
To frame in camera as I knew the crops would be very minimal.
Here is the Full frame image.

Dan,

I love your composition and the scene is beautiful - have to admit that I like the original better than the crop.

Another vote for the original. The benefit of carrying a shorter zoom is that you can create a wider image with more habitat like you did here. The original is a little more than what I would call a minimal crop but the IQ certainly holds up. Cheers

I'm a fan of tight crops but I love the original, uncropped version here for the beautiful setting!

Another vote for the original. I like the pose, exposure, setting and southern feel. Excellent image Dan!

I like both versions, either one works well. There is plenty of detail in the cropped version and I love the moss. That D7000 does very well. BTW is that zoom the f2.8 or the new f4?

Love this! Especially the original, but both are great. I like the contrast between soft fluffy moss, and the sharp lines of the feather patterns.

As a fan of both Anhingas and environmental shots, this is a great one. My favorite is the uncropped original but either way the result is excellent. Great job.

Thanks for the comments.
Jack,
this is the 70-200 f2.8 vrii lens.
It works very well with the nikon 1.7 tc I think
for a nice light walk around short tele lens.

Dan, one of the best anhinga shots I've seen. I very much prefer the repost as it adds more of the beautiful spanish moss. Fine job.
