This is the second individual I photographed the other day, and this one is a bit further along on its' molt. The yellow tufted "horns" are starting to grow, and the black feathers on the face are well on there way. A full breeding plumaged individual would be awesome but it's always fun to get transitional plumages too! I love the water envelopping the subject here...choppy waters often addd lots of interesting elements to images.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1000s., f/5, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop left and bottom for comp. Audio used.

Amazing image again, Daniel. I was shooting one in full breeding plumage yesterday at Colonel Samuel Smith Park, Etobicoke (Greater Toronto).
I wish you could have been there.

Another great one with the 500. As usual, love the low angle for this one. I'm usually a fan of still water, but the waves are clean here - a nice plus.

I would add a bit of contrast (darker blacks in this case) to see the effect.

500mm...yepper!! Your re-comp is subtly but effectively cropped, I like it. No scuba gear though...just a great spot where land meets water in a very low slope so I just took up my usual flat on my belly approach:S3:
