I recently crossed 10,000 posts here on BPN. Thanks to everyone who egged me on since the beginning, offering me honest and constructive critique to improve both my choices in the field and my post-processing. I have grown more by using BPN in a participatory manner than I would have from attending countless courses and workshops.

Thanks to everyone who makes the Wildlife and Landscape forums fun and interesting! Keep it coming! :5

Took this Spotted Hyena portrait in the Kruger Park back in 2011 in overcast weather...:S3:

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
1.4x TC
f5.6 | 1/1250 SS | ISO-800

Congratulation Morkel and certainly I would echo your words. BPN is a great place to post and learn, and like you, I to have benefited from the advice, comments and feedback, or even just browsing the site, plus it's nice to see how people develop too.

Again, I like the soft, yet rich tones of the the image overall, with the muted tones of the BKGD compared to the markings and colouring of the Hyena. Nice detail and the muddy colour and droplets of water around the mouth add interest to the subject. the overcast conditions worked in your favour I feel.

Congrats on the milestone Morkel! I agree with your sentiments about BPN. Active participation in both posting one's own images and commenting on other threads teaches a ton and is the best $20 spent on photography in a year.

Now for the image, great detail and creamy bokeh. The comp works very well too. Overall, an excellent hyena image.

TFS,
Rachel

Huge congratulations on this milestone, Morkel. I also echo your sentiments where BPN is concerned. I have especially learned so much from you and Steve in this very forum, and I thank your time.

You picked a super image to share. I love the way it's coming out on the diagonal. The light was just perfect for this image. Great portrait.

Congrats on the milestone and thanks for your comments and contributions. Excellent IQ on this one (as usual). I like the droplets on the chin and the wet fur under the ear.

Incredible detail and depth here -- it's 3D -- makes me feel like I'm right there! That's not something I often feel, even with many otherwise wonderful images.

Look forward to the next 10,000!
