Canon 500mm UV filter

Hi, I just need some advice. Just wondering whether you guys use a UV filter on your big lenses? When I had the 100-400 is was encouraged to fit one which I never did but wondered whether its something I should do with my 500mm. Ay advice would be great.

A UV filter on a digital camera with an AA filter is not needed at all for any lens the AA filter effectively filters UV rays. Now as protection it would be useless on a 500 f/4 since they only take drop in filters at the back of the lens I personally feel using a UV filter for protection has more draw backs then benefits and do not use one on any of my lenses including my L glass. I am sure if you search the site we probably have had a couple of threads debating the issue.
