Canon EOS 5D, Shooting Date/Time 5/1/2008 12:47:57, Shutter Speed 1/50Sec. Av(Aperture Value) F11, Evaluative metering, Exposure Compensation +1/3, ISO 200, Lens: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, Focal Length: 135.0 mm, on tripod from 18 inches away. Cropped for a 9x12 and about 80% of frame left here.

This is a captive non-releasable Northern Saw Wet Owl from The Center For Wildlife, http://www.yorkcenterforwildlife.org/index.php They had their annual breakfast fundraiser and we went to the center for some images afterward. This owl is very cooperative and with patience you can get some nice closeups. Thanks for looking.

A beautiful bird and pose Grady I just wish for a better DOF . Still a very nice shot.....

I think you've got enough DOF here. I would lighten the portion of the owl in the right half of the frame. Also I think it's a little cramped in the frame. Easy to add canvas with that BG. Nice photo all in all!

I think the DOF is fine....it's sharp in the eyes and the other feathers are somewhat smooth on a Saw Whet Owl so I think it's fine. You just have to remember that you need more DOF when using the 5D........and you will be rewarded as I love the 5D images. I also think this one as a portrait works well tight. You did well getting a nice BG on a captive bird.....not always possible. Well done.
