Hi, I was contemplating buying a 1.7X TC to use on my 300f4 lens when light was bright enough. It apparently can AF more or less ok in this situation.

I have however read that stacking a Nikon and a Kenko 1.4x TC would provide even better AF capability

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Would i need to modify the TC in any way for this to work?

I am assuming the order would go: Lens, Kenko, Nikon, Body

Any information would be most welcome

Thanks and regards
Shane

Reducing light, stacking TCs will reduce light, will always slow down AF, not improve it, assuming mechanics and electronics are equal. Also, the specific performance you achieve is going to depend on which lens is combined with which body. In general, but not always, if you're using Nikon lens and body, then a Nikon TC will give you the best performance.

Where Kenko sometimes has an advantage is in overriding factory limits on TC compatibility. The Nikon 1.7X should work with your f/4.

Stacking is only good as a last resort, more glass, less light, slower AF, etc make this a poor choice on a regular basis.
