Hi, I've just brought a late 2010 500mm lens and want to get a 1.4 teleconverter for it. Can someone tell me whether the new mk iii is compatible with the mk I lens please.

thanks

simon

Yes. The "II" TCs have been replaced by the "III"s but are backwards compatible with the older lenses. Altough not all the new features are available with the older lenses, the optical quality is somewhat better.

Optical performance of II and III nearly identical for all but full frame cameras. (where there is a slight improvement in edge in 1.4x III over II)
Noticable improvement in optical performance for new 2.0 III over older II model.

Thanks, I already own the Kenko Pro 300 DGX 1.4 extender which gets pretty good reviews. Do you know how this compares to the canon 1.4 mk ii equivalent and do you think it's its worth spending £400 on a canon version. In image quality would I see any difference? I was just about to order one from amazon, but suddenly thought to ask for advice first.

thanks a lot.

I just got the canon 1.4 III and I have the kenko pro 300 dg 1.4 and the canon beats the kenko. Not by alot but enough to make me feel it was worth the upgrade. I am using it on a 5d iii and canon 500 f/4 is. I feel every little bit counts and its more than a little. When I am shooting birds, feather detail means alot to me
