From last summer. Just experimenting with different compositions for dragonfly photos.
Idea here was to shoot a vertical with the perch rising out from the other reeds.
Any comments appreciated.

Allen:

I like the rich colors of the dragonfly, the general concept/comp of the shot. I might be tempted to crop up just a bit from the bottom, and a small crop from the left to keep the same proportions. Something like this perhaps?

Cheers

Randy

Images like this are just made for playing with, I have to confess I like both compositions......but I think I like this better!
The image is super quality - excellent focus and detail, love the colours and pose

Hi Allen. It looks like you achieved your goal. Very nice pose, sharpness, colors, and light. The OOF reeds in the background give a feel for the habitat without being distracting. Cropping is always subjective and there are three interesting possibilities above - all of which work. If I had to pick a favorite, I think I'd go with Randy's repost. This is a beautiful image!
