This dancing dark morph Reddish Egret photograph was made on the last afternoon of the Fort Desoto/Hooptie Deux Short Notice IPT with the tripod-mounted Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM lens (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/754508-REG/Canon_5125B002_EF_600mm_f_4L_IS.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/CA6004LIFEF2/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xCA6004LIFEF2), the Canon 1.4x EF Extender III (Teleconverter) (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/732113-USA/Canon_4409B002_1_4x_EF_Extender_III.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/CA14XEF3/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xCA14XEF3), and the Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR camera (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/827036-REG/Canon_5253B002_EOS_1D_X_Digital_SLR.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/CAE1DX/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xCAE1DX). ISO 800. Evaluative metering +1 1/3 stops as framed: 1/1000 sec. at f/5.6 in Manual mode. 61-point/AI Servo/Rear Focus AF on the bird’s head just behind the eye active at the moment of exposure. Click here (http://www.birdsasart-blog.com/2011/09/13/rear-focus-tutorial/) if you missed the Rear Focus Tutorial. Based on the wind and the weather my last- second decision to change of our afternoon shooting location paid off big time. I kept 45 images of this bird dancing and catching fish. 61-Point AF performed superbly here as it does with most situations featuring erratic action.
