Green Hermits (Phaethornis guy) are true aerial acrobats and can be captured in a wide variety of mid-air poses. This one was photographed in Costa Rica at a 4-flash setup set up by Greg Basco and Doug Brown. I like the yellow grains of pollen on the bird's beak and forehead. The tip of the tongue is extended just a bit. 1D 4, 70-300 mm at 176 mm, 1/200, f/16, ISO 250, center-point AF, hand held. I applied nr to the backgroud - which is a print of OOF rainforest vegetation and removed two extra catchlights. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

I like the fanned tail and the detail in the feathers.
I'd wish for a little better right(bird's right) wing position (not straight down the axis of the wing, although the spiral of feathers on the backstroke mitigates this a bit)
If it were mine, I'd do a little work on the top surface of the bill to reduce the brightness.

Great shot Steve and wonderful fanned tail. This is becoming my favorite CR hummingbird due to its acrobatic poses.

Dramatic, perfectly exposed, and just rich with color and detail. I love it as is in terms of comp. Just a marvelous capture.
