Image taken from garden hide, tripod head bolted on shelf, we have some tall poplar trees at the bottom of the garden, twigs get snapped off in the wind so I salvaged one for this image. All comments welcome.

A terrible pest species here sadly, but nonetheless a nice looking species, the eye contact is extra good as is the quality of light, the background is super smooth and the color tones compliment the bird. perch is interesting, although my eye tends to go straight for the foremost cluster of buds more so than the bird

Perfect Jon, lesson in how to make a very common bird into a nice portrait.
No nits here

I really like the warm earthy colors in these photos. Nice bit of a diagonal on perch and good eye contact. Also nice to see that bit of tail. Interesting comment about the attraction of the buds and an easy fix if your intention.

A pest introduced species here too, but I also agree it is a handsome looking bird. Good vertical comp, and the perch you chose works well.

Hi Jon, another well chosen perch - looks great. Good DOF over the entire image, the sparrow is tack sharp, and colours look spot on. A vertical comp was the only way to go, and your BG has also turned out very well.

Great catching up earlier. :w3

Jon, great techs, BG, pose & composition. While I like the diagonal of the perch, I think it competes with the bird for attention.

Wonderful comp with the placement of the subject and the diagonal line created by the perch.

Sweet details, excellent light, exposure, and comp. Love the perch. Great job show casing a common species; handsome but tends to be ignored.
