Visiting the Long Beach, California Aquarium with my 3 year old grand daughter when I spotted a Hummingbird landing in some foliage
between some outdoor exhibits. I walked over, fortunately my walk around, Grand daughter photo lens is a 70/200 vrii, so
I snapped 5 shots before she flew off and I realized what she was doing. The nest is so tiny, I would not was not sure
what it was through the viewfinder.
Slow settings and a decent crop with a D7000, but this is my first hummingbird feeding photo so I was happy.
An Allen Hummingbird I believe.

Way cool, shot Dan. I love hummingbirds and can't wait for their arrival back here. I have tried but never been able to find a HB nest. Glad you posted this.

Wow, what a special image. IQ has probably suffered a bit due to crop, but still a special image.

So cute! What an incredible find. Looks like you were spotting down from a higher vantage point. BG isn't ideal, but who could have expected such find?

nice behavior. It needs a bit more contrast to pop, IQ not as good as your D800 files but not bad either. I wish that giant leaf had either covered the entire BG or none of it. good view of the nest. TFS

I can relate to finding it difficult to come across nests of various birds even if they are reasonably common...good score finding this tiny one Dan. Nice timing with the interaction with mum and chick.....but does need a bit more contrast I think

Congratulations Dan, this was a beautiful find. And an Allen's makes it even more special.

Hi Dan, a tender moment well captured - just enough beak from the juvi to make it work. I do like the coloured iridescence on the HB, and an opportunity well used.

Very nice find Dan. Not an often seen feeding behavior. I agree with Arash in that a contrast boost will make this nice image pop more. Well done. Glad you got something to post while you were down here. Go figure.

Terrific shot!!!
Excellent find.
Love the behavior captured, great comp, IQ looks good, and agree on a contrast boost.
Well done.
