While out hunting on a windy spring day. 7D, 500mm, ISO640, f/8, 1/1000
Cropped vertical from a horizontal and removed one grass stalk on right side.

Hi,
I like it - I like the crop, the diagonal slant of the neck, and the faint reed stems in the bg that are parallel to it work nicely, and the feather details on the bird are good. Looks as if he's about to give you a peck on the cheek!

I also like the crop, looks nice, Dave. The head and beak look like the bird was hunting in the murky water, but I might be wrong.

I think it works as presented. The BG is nice, his eye is sharp and he looks like he is interested in something...

A little different and sharp detail, these birds always look goofy when viewed front on....I like it

Beautiful breeding plumage. I like the windblown plumes as well. The head angle is iffy imo. Would prefer a more intentional "head on" view, or more of a turn to the bird's right to show it's left eye better and not show it's right eye. Regardless, I would have been very pleased to capture this fine portrait with the nicely patterned grassy background. A much more difficult species to obtain images like this of in northerly locals vs. southerly locations....well done.
