Here's a link to a video describing a 1.8 billion pixel camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13BahrdkMU8&feature=player_embedded. It's absolutely fascinating.

Anyone remember George Orwell and "1984"?

Great link. Thanks Norm. But it got me thinking about scaling current sensors to this size.

A 1.8 billion pixel sensor at a standard 3 x 2 aspect ratio turns out to be 51,961 pixels wide x 34,641 pixels high. My 1DIV has a sensor 4,896 x 3,264 pixels, or a little less than 100x less area than Argus. I assume you could make an array 10 1DIV sensors wide by 10 high, and combine the RAW data from all 100 of them into one image that would be more or less equivalent to Argus. The trick would be to build a lens that would project an image that large.

PS I have no clue how big are the Argus pixels.

John, I was thinking along those lines... a 100 shot blend (give or take) should do the trick depending on overlap. I've done 34 before, 100 isn't that far of a stretch ;-)...
