Rather common Australian Pelicans taken last week while out on the mud flats about 200klms from home, I rarely bother with pelican shots, too easy most of the, time but I liked this pair perched atop the " Podium " .....aka old disused jetty pylons. Taken in harsh afternoon light as it's the only time the mud flats are exposed enough to walk out on, and the old pylons were way, way out on the water line.

Canon 7D + 500 f4 + 1.4 x TC......700mm, f8, 1/1250, ISO 200......slight leveling and crop, selective sharpen, highlights tweaked in PS, slight color saturation tweak on sky

Phil:

Works for me! Matching poses, different heights, clean BG, well exposed and sharp.

Cheers

Composition works well. Exposure looks good, and both birds are sharp. Nice job!

Nice! I just wish for a bit more room on the bottom and a hint more light in the eye of the one on the right. (easy to do)

Hi Phil, Interesting comp but agree about more room on the bottom.I think you did the best you could with the existing lighting but it is a bit harsh...

Hi Phil,
I am not loving this one.
I like the similar poses but don't like the platform the lower bird is standing on. Now, if he was on a pylon like the top guy that would be nice!
Techs are good and the whites look good even with the harsh light,
Gail

Great title and I like the stacked pose Phil. You did well considering the harsh light. I agree with Gail that if the second one was on a post, it would be nicer, but still looks good to me. Good eye.

Thanks for looking, may post up some of the other images of these two and a third pelican as well when time permits to sort through them all.
