Lake Istokpoga Sunrise

I got to Lake Istokpoga a few minutes later than I would have normally and barely had time to get my tripod set up and grab this shot of a rain shower as the sunrise shone through it. The rain shower disappeared in less than a minute.

Canon 1DX, 24mm, ISO 100, SS 1/5 sec, f/8. Processed in PS CS6 with Nik Color Efex Pro.

That is a cool looking sky Mark.

Not sure if this was a possible composition, but I would have like to see the sun further left or right in the frame - kind of too close to the center. However, the FG comp is very pleasing.

This is very nice Mark. Love those clouds... My suggestion for an improvement is to turn slightly to the right so the sun is de-centered to the left and potentially more of the reflection might be visible on the water leading into the lower RH corner. That would also remove some of the lower LH corner which is least appealing part of a lovely image IMHO.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Normally I would have better composed this shot but I was really scrambling to get my tripod set up in a hurry before the distant rain shower and light changed. The back lit rain shower disappeared as soon as the sun poked above the horizon unfortunately. Points well taken though.

I like the light and the layering with the different colours...
The sky/clouds are a bit too psychedelic-HDR toned for my taste but I know some dig it :e3
Blending came out nicely apart from that (in terms of making it look realistic which is what I always go for)

Would love to see more of your landscape work on the forum!

Sorry to disappoint Morkel but there is no HDR toning here at all. This is a one shot exposure. I darkened the sky a small amount in order to better show the rain shower in the distance. That's it that's all.
