I love these little guys.
I wish the tail was visible, but the BG is sweet and you have nice details.
I think it could go a tad sharper, but just a bit.

What a lovely capture. Looks like you had perfect lighting for a B&W subject. Love the pose, the perch, and all the details in the whites and around the beak.

Nice photo of a female (or juvenile?) Jim, perfect profile pose. Like the angled (not verical) tree. Makes the photo more dynamic.

Very fine capture, Jim, a real keeper. Great BG, great contrast and catch-light in the eye. Lighting is beautiful.

Hey Jim, You have this feeder set-up stuff down pat. For me, this is the perfect woodpecker comp. I have no problema at all with the tail. The image would be a lot stronger with a bit more head turn towards us.

BKGR is killer sweet.

Real nice job with this one. Nice detail in the bird and BG is perfect.

Just a slight head turn would be ideal. Otherwise, it's a lovely shot with great tones.

Great capture! The exposure is perfect. Very nice composition. I also wish the head angle is a bit more toward us.

Beautiful!
Love the light, pose and texture on bark. The BG is also quite good and makes the bird stand out. Good job!

Hi Jim, excellent exposure on both the blacks and whites, and posed against a lovely smooth BG. I'd say your comp works pretty well too.

Sweet comp, Jim. Perfect exposure and lovely details. I too feel that a slight head turn would have been an improvement, but I'd be very happy to have this one.

I agree with a slightly better HA, and I could see the WP a little lower in the framer, but all else looks fantastic...techs, sharpness, brownish tones.

Excellent downy woodpecker image Jim. The photograph has your style showing all over it.
I like to study the regional differences in plumages in this species in the images that show up
on the web. The head angle is the only thing that could be improved. The seperation of the
woodpecker's body from the trunk is brilliant.
