Canon 40D, 300mm f4 IS, Tripod and hide, f5.0, ISO 400, 1/160.

The squirrel looks great (sharp, good DOF, good positioning) and the perch is very appealing (good saturated, but not overly greens).

The BG is somewhat problematic. THe dark blotches grab the eye and that is not something you want to happen. In the field it would be best to move around in determine if a less distracting BG is possible.

Lovely image, great detail, colours and good DOF. The pose, chosen perch with the green moss and the eye contact make it for me. The dark areas in the BG are not a problem for me as i find my eye more attracted to the squirrel and the great perch it has chosen.

I also agree with Brendon - for me the dark blotches add more pop to the red squirrel...but that's the beauty of photography - everyone sees things so differently...
