Alien Seen At Venice Rookery

Another one from my first day at Venice Rookery last week. Two young GBH in the nest both squawking for their dinner as one of the parents arrive. The one shown here was the more vocal of the two and really put on a show. I thought I was witnessing something from the Alien movie when what I'm assuming is a tongue shot out of it's mouth. The parent GBH is on the right.

Yes, that ugly thing is the tongue all right.

The squawking pose, wild hairdo, exposure and sharpness look good.

In a perfect world, would prefer the nictitating membrane was open.

I like the inclusion of the adults neck, adds an interesting element, but would prefer it to not merge with the chicks neck.

This is a terrific chick behavior capture, nictitating membrane and all. The adult's neck does add an important element since they are rarely without an adult nearby at this age.
