Malabar Pied Hornbill.

We were five in a round boat. It was really difficult keep you hand steady. Still managed to get good images.

This is with 500 / F4 hand held.

Lovely action, catching it from that boat is tough very well done here.
the details on underwings are lovely

Neat bird, good comp, the near wing looks great position-wise. Image is over-sharpened as posted but interestingly enough also lacking fine detail (NR? Big crop?)

Nice technique and timing to capture this image. I can only imagine the challenges of shooting BIF from a moving subject.

It does look like this came from a large crop (or possibly a lot of compression?).

Super job on getting your bird sharp. Your speed did the trick. Agree on the sharpening halo around the bird. Like the position of the near wing and the spread tail feathers. Would give it a tad more room above for that wing.

That's a very fine image for handheld and on a moving platform too. I'd be interested to know how much of a crop was used. What an amazing sight to see and in fight too! Well done!

Thank you all for your post. Yes it's a big crop. I have cropped the image by 40%..

I liked the eye contact a lot. Agree with the suggestions above. Terrific opportunity.

Striking looking bird. I see a halo around the bird as a result of sharpening. It would be an easy fix.
