Flight images of this species can be quite spectacular and very dynamic, but a stare-down with a perched individual can be just as powerful! I liked the way some of its' tail feathers were caught in some branches...

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/500s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, some stray branches cloned out, levels and contrast adjusted an originally flatly lit subject.

Daniel:

Impressive stare indeed. The tail feathers do add a little extra oomph, you have to study the image a bit more. His straight ahead stare and the vertical perch lends itself to the centered comp.

Still seems just a smidge flat contrast wise, but I appreciate the lighting conditions!

What a cool and unique portrait, Daniel. The feathers on the left really give this image a boost. I wish for a slightly different crop, more on left and less on right

Very nice composition, and I agree the the "stuck" feathers add to the image. As quiet and as powerful a presence as he may have ... he can't help but get his feathers stuck on a limb :)

The stare and the eyes really draw you in. I could see a version with a little more contrast, but like it as is too. How many more of this series do you have? Looking forward to the next one!

Hi Dan, I wouldnt touch the comp, and love the intent stare at you. The high key/snow BG really brings out the colour of the owl.

Now that I am seeing it on the big screen and not my iPad, I wouldn't touch the comp either.

Excellent image, Daniel. The composition looks good to me. The high key presentation works well with this Owl.

Stunning image Daniel. The flight shots are spectacular but this too is just as impactful imo. The pose is great and that strong eye contact makes this image.
Wouldn't change a pixel.

Another great image of the Great Gray Owl. I really like the comp and the white background makes it look it was posing for you. All of the ones you have posted have been fantastic although I like the ones in flight better myself.

So much impact due to the stare. Terrific image. loved the white BG...makes the yellow eyes stand out so much. I also would not touch a thing.

Another gorgeous image of this gorgeous bird. Love the high-key look. My first reaction was that a little more contrast would help -- then I saw that you had already adjusted it. But maybe just a tad more??? In any event, congrats on another fine owl.

Very nice Daniel, personally I would take a perch shot over a flight shot most days.
I personally think it is much harder to get a good pose, and perch than a flight shot of most species.

Love the big great gray on the smaller perch. Also love the intense eye contact.
Those protruding feathers on the left are so visually interesting and as accurately
pointed out already, makes one slow down and study the image more in depth.
