I am back with another image from this week. At first I did not like the perch that this bird was on—but I am growing more fond of it (I think) —and opening up the image. I don’t like the man-made cut on the larger log—but, that is what was there.

I like the warm earth tones. The owl shows well against the scene. Light is very nice, but I think you could present the whole image brighter with good effect...
Perhaps just a bit of underexposure at 1/5000. Are you sure the cuts are man-made? They almost look like beaver chews to me....The owl looks nice and relaxed,
though I wish the bird's left eye showed better.

Hi Bonnie,

I like how the bird stands out from the background, but I think the log itself is distracting, especially with the cuts. If this were mine (I would be thrilled to see a snowy!), I would try cropping both sides to make this vertical.

The Owl is lit up nicely.
You have nailed the exposure.
1/5000 @f8 w/ 400 iso is ridiculous in the Northwest in winter!
Lucky you and the perch is fine with me.
In a perfect world you would get both eyes, but I think this very nice.

lovely pose and exposure, I just wish the other eye was not in the shade

Shawn, interesting that you think it is beavers that gnawed the log. This is out on the ocean—It would be cool if it was—if I go back and it is still there, I will have to inspect it closer.

Thanks everyone for your comment—it certainly helps me! I do have other images with the owl and two eyes—Not quite as pleasing a pose, I do not think—I might post one of those later.

Thanks!

I like the way it is but would like it better if the left eye were nit in the shadow.
