Common Loon - All worked up on a foggy morning

This loon was imaged in 2009 on a dark and foggy morning. Another loon just out of frame to the left was getting this one all wound up!

D700 500mm f/4 at f/5 1/1000s ISO 1250 Mounted in the bottom of my little boat, "Loonie Too"

Post: Modest crop from above and below for comp, selective sharpening, bit of saturation on the eye.

Advice and comments always appreciated.

Thought this was a nice change of pace from the placid, colorful loon I posted yesterday.

I like the moodiness of this image, as well as that terrific splash. My one wish would be for the loon's wings to be a tad more symmetrical which would have put this image on another level.

Exposure: nice job with the high key scene
Detail: good. and good processing as always
Light: it works for this scene
Pose: obviously the pose is super dynamic and intriguing. That loon was upset about something it looks like!
Composition: beautiful - the non-traditional crop works well here.

Definitely a different Loon image, Randy. I like the dynamism with the splashing and the high key look. I often find that with these splashing images the droplet positions makes a big difference and having a clear view of the eye as you have here is essential. Pano cop works well. A very subtle vignette may be worth trialling.

Interesting and different. Funny, with all the splashing and water that is in this image, my eye goes right to the one droplet that is hanging off his beak. Maybe my eyes are just shot, but I might take the brightness down just a point or two.

I keyed right in to something other's have already noticed...this is a different loon image, and it's
technically well captured. They do use water to express their emotions and this image shows it well.

Thanks so much for the comments everyone. As you may have noticed, I have lots of conventional loon images, so I do like to try something different occ.

Grace - I did brighten the image to try and give it a little dynamic range. Perhaps overshot a bit.
