Great image, Roman...well executed...the Geyser takes it over the top :5

All the best for 2013!!
Have you ever tried rendering your night shots with a cooler WB like "tungsten" or "fluorescent"? I like how that brings more colour out of the stars, and you can still balance to a warmer FG temperature

Thanks Morkel and Maureen! Yeah......I've tried just about every color temp correction. The sky in this image was very red/magenta.....probably smoke from fires so pulled that back a lot. I know a few people that like the cooler temps and even push that.......I tried to keep it as "neutral" as I saw in this case....and I tend to go more black. I am using new noiseware software DxO Pro Elite 8.......Hunt's has a special on it in the "Hot Deals section: http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php/106021-HUNT-S-PHOTO-DXO-IMAGING-SOFTWARE-SPECIAL!
I am really liking it a lot and hope to show some more examples in 2013 using it on my night images. I will try too push the cooler tones on the next one......but my guess is that it is a personal preference thing.
Cheers to you and your family in 2013!!! I see they are kids are getting big......like weeds I tell you.... as my son is now 18......the younger one shortly behind......so enjoy these precious years!!!

Exceptional image, Roman, and the best wishes for the new year! Image still looks a little grainy to me, especially in the lighter areas in the lower part of the image.

Roman - fantastic night image. The geyser leading into the Milky Way takes it over the top. Happy New Year to you too!

Roman,
Beautiful image. The geyser obviously adds a lot to the image. Morkel, the Milky Way is pretty brownish-red, especially near the center of the galaxy.

We are currently near solar max and airglow (this is low level auroral activity everywhere) adds a lot of red to the sky background. I even recorded very red sky in Tanzania this August, when a short time earlier was very blue skies before sunset and no hint of clouds, haze or smoke. I've also seen a lot of banding in the red, this too is banded red airglow. It looks like clouds but is not.
