A late migrant Semi-palmated Sandpiper along the shores of the upper Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick, Canada. High tides push the birds to shore while they await a receding tide and open mud flats for foraging. The rocks are pretty to look at but are brutal on the knees, feet, elbows and whatever else makes contact with the ground!

Canon MK IV, 500mm f/4L II +1.4x, ISO:800, f/7.1@1/320, Manual, AI Servo AF, evaluative metering, gitzo 3530, leveling head, jobu gimbal. Nearly FF - only cropped slightly from left for comp. All C&Cs welcome and appreciated.

Terrific exposure and details in your bird, Dan, and I do like the rocks and their varying colors. If this were mine and since your version is only a slight crop, I think I would go with this crop. This particular crop eliminates some of the darker spots all around, yet still maintains the colorful rocks with much emphasis on your subject.

Dan, very nicely done. You positioned yourself just right both laterally and vertically to capture the entire foot. Good thinking! It's neat to see the mix of colors in the bg and how well they mesh with the Sandpiper. I do like the crop suggestion by Marina.

Excellent shot super exposure and detail, I am not too keen on tight crops but I think Marina's version looks very good, as she says it really does focus concentration on the bird.

Nice pose, sharpness and details, Dan. I also like the rocky for- and background which is not as easy to get with this species.
