This guy was shot this past summer at Forcyth NWR in NJ. Unfortunately the area sustained a lot of damage from hurricane Sandy and I'm not sure when it will be re-opening. We were just arriving and I didn't set my camera up yet. We saw some terns flying overhead and decided to stop. I grabbed my 1DMK4 and 600 out of the case aimed at a tern pressed the shutter and the 2 s. timer was on :Whoa!:, that's never a good feeling! Luckily they came around again so I quickly re-adjusted and fired a few off. I never really shoot handheld with the big glass but was pretty happy the way this one came out. ISO 800, f/7.1, SS 1/1600

Quiet sharp especially for these speedsters of the sky, the eye looks a little funny and I think a bit more space on the left would improve a little ...but nicely done on a beautiful subject

Hi Nick, good flying pose with a good view of the extended near wing and tail. I like how the tern is separated from the BG. I can see this as a vertical too. :w3

Like the pose and the wing position on this nice shot. Like the tail on this Forsters tern also. Nice job.

I like the tail and flight pose, nicely done getting this hand held. I would also tried a vertical comp, it should work even better.
