Sandhill Crane in flight - Bosque

I was prowling through folders from a couple of years ago, and came across this one. I liked the open beak, and the wing positions. Thanks in advance for C/C as always.

Canon 7D ISO 400, full-frame + added canvas at top, bottom and left (original was a bit too tight in those areas). 500 mm f/4L IS; 1/1600 sec. @ f/9.0. PP in LR 4.2 and added canvas in Photoshop CS4. Almost no processing except the canvas, a little luminance smoothing on BG, and a little sharpening of the bird.

Nice calling pose! Great sharp details and good focus on the eye. Ideally, I wish the wing tips, especially the left ones, are fully extended.

From the sounds of it you were lucky to get the subject to fit the in the frame! Exposure and deatils look great. Apart from the curled wingtips this is as nice a "plain blue sky" flight image of a Sandhill Crane you could ask for.
