Lonely

A lonely tree right in front the Salt Pan in Etosha National Park.
The darker gray area along the horizon above the Salt Pan was smoke. No idea from where that came from, but TIA :w3

Hi Anette - I recognize that tree. Great clouds and I like the comp and b&w treatment. Interesting that there are no animals on the pan behind it.

Thanks Rachel, this was between the animals, early morning. The animals came later, every day the same :bg3: little migration, like in your image. I found lots of Hyaenas & lions at this tree. When no predator were around than Springbuck and the other full lot :S3:

for my tastes I would open up the deepest blacks a tad to have some detail in the tree and the FG shrub - might work to just reduce overall contrast a wee bit?

I favor the high-contrast look as this is what I would imagine it might look like here. I am not keen on the smoke line passing through the tree where it does but unavoidable here.

Overall pleasing composition with the tree well-placed and balancing the big-sky look I normally favor. Nice work.

Hi Anette,
I like the simplicity of your image. The high clouds add interest but agree with Robert about the smoke line as it confuses the eye and I am then tempted to rotate the image counterclockwise to balance the diagonal smoke line as it affects the horizon.

I'm with Robert on the smoke line but nothing you could do about that! Good advice above and very nice feel with the conversion.
