D3 plus 600 mm , Gitzo tripod, wimberely head.
ISO 800 1/2000 @ F8 exp comp + 0.3 .
Minor PS work.
I left shadows on wing as is as I was worried about creating too much noise. As you know my PS skill are limited.:)
Location : Wilderness Lakes, South Africa
My first sighting of this Heron and really enjoyed it. He circled me as the last rays of Sunshine were falling.

Nice and sharp and the wing detail is nice, too bad about the shadow, but I like it as is.
I would put him just a little back in the frame, usually more in front and less in back looks better.
Whereabouts is wilderness lakes?

I don't think the shadows hurt it at all. They add depth. And you certainly got the gleaming red eye! A beauty.
You might want to take a look at Noiseware for noise reduction. Much better for nr than the native CS3 tool and super-easy to use. Just select the area you want and run Noiseware on it. Done deal.
I run it on just about every single sky. I've never changed its default settings, either.

Classic pose of this guy. Nice. Maybe a little hot around the eye?
