Another Bufflehead from yesterday.
I sort of like the effect of exposing for the whites, but it is almost fake.
It was not dark when I took this, but this is what you need to do to not blow the whites
when the sun is out,
and they are still right on the edge.

Yes, it's a nifty look and although buffleheads really don't look like this, there's something appealing here, I think. The water colors certainly help add to the mystery. I have spent a great deal of time with this species, and have also taken expose-for-the-white shots and usually afterwards I have a similar reaction: "This doesn't look right, it's not what I saw, but I like it, I think" and in the case of this picture my only real criticism is that it's too tight on the left side!

Sounds like difficult light to deal with. Nifty looking duck. I may try a version that is cropped like a panorama - Some off the bottom, just below the green feather reflection, and top.

I like the dar effect. I loke the blue metallic look to the water

And another appealing image Dan - I would just like a little more space behind the tail.

Another magnificent image of Bufflehead with beautiful colors.
Love the pose, colors, details and lovely reflection of water ripples on the whites of duck.

Great image, Dan !!! Would like to see more space to left and perhaps a trim from bottom...but trim only to try.
Best regards

I really like this Dan. Love the colors on the head and the perfect HA and low POV.
Just need a bit more room on the left,
Gail

Just wondering how this would look if you reduced the vibrance of the background. The duck is so lovely that I hate to have competition with the background.

Gorgeous image. Agree w/ those who ask for a bit more room on left, and like Grace's comment about decreasing the vibrance in bg (despite the fact that it looks great) in order to place more emphasis on subject.
