View Full Version : Barred Owl Air Strike - Part Deux

This is actually the third frame of the air strike series between the Barred Owl & the Red-shouldered Hawk. The frame which precedes this one is pretty much just a ball of feathers from the moment of impact with only the hawk's head visible. This was photographed as they separated from the impact. I decreased the SAT even more from the last posted frame.

Canon 1D3, Canon 70-200l F4 IS & 1.4 TC @ 280mm
F7.1, 1/1250sec, ISO 40, manual mode
Handheld

C & C always welcomed and much appreciated.

Hi Marina, I prefer this frame, as the owl in this is showing us how he has dominated the fight, and how his eyes are fixed on making sure that he's won the battle. In situations like this, Im sure you just kept the shutter firing, and get to choose the best action from your sequence. :w3

Another action packed image.Excellent moment captured.Since you told us that it is from aerial combat series.Otherwise for me these are dancing poses.
Love the expressions of both birds.Rest as usual superb.

Very interesting action Marina...terrific sharpness, composition, and light. I'll have to check the other one out right away. I am wondering what happened in the end. I assume they both separated without serious injury?

Great action image. I like the open tallons of the birds and the Owl looking at the Hawk. Both images from this scene are awesome!

Hi Marina,
I like the vertical composition on this image. The clarity of the eyes and face of the owl is very powerful.
