View Full Version : My, what an interesting bill you have -- leucistic trumpeter juvi

This juvi trumpeter was imaged last weekend. I had posted a full body picture of him earlier, but wanted to do justice to that amazing bill. It was very interesting to see him with his sibling. Besides the bill and yellow/orange feet, his overall plumage is much lighter than his sibling, with only a bit of the gray on the back showing.

D4 600VR f/6.3 1/320s ISO 1600 SB900 fill with beamer I was as low as possible at this location

Post: Selective sharpening, slight detail extractor on back, full frame

Advice and comments always appreciated.

Cheers

Randy

A very nice portrait of the trumpeter Randy and an excellent HA to emphasize the unusual colouring of the bill. You have certainly achieved your aim here.

Nicely composed! The exposure is perfect. The bill colour is sure unique

Good job with the fill flash, Randy, b/c it was indiscernible to my eyes. If it were mine, I'd consider taking a tad off of the bottom and adding to the top.

Delicate and lovely, a very interesting looking Swan.
Maybe just a tad more contrast to make it stand out a bit more?

That bill is really something! Reminds me of a fancy easter egg for some reason....
I agree with Marina's suggestion, and another consideration might be to have a bit
more body coming into the frame, with less empty space on the left, only because
of the bird's head angle. Flash work is subtle and pleasing.

Hi Randy, I like the angled pose, and you have exposed the whites very well. Love the mottled colours on the beak, water reflection on the neck. Comp wise, I would leave the bottom, and maybe add a touch to the top.

Sorry, I meant less empty space on the right and a bit more on the left....

Thanks everyone for the valuable input. This is full frame, so no more room on the left, but it would have been nice. I certainly can see a bit more above, and a bit more contrast as well.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers

Very well exposed image and a great composition. However, I miss some canvas from the top and maybe take some off from below. However, very nice for sure.

Hey Randy,
Excellent image! Believe it or not.....I like the delicate colors in this case and may not do the contrast. Rare for me I know :).
