One of a small number roosting on the rocks today at Grand Pre, Nova Scotia.

Olympus OM-D E-M5, Panasonic 100-300, hand-held, 1/1000 at f/5.6, ISO200, no flash.

Raw file cropped, sharpened, noise reduction, curves in LR4. A few white spots t the bottom of the rock removed.

Thanks for looking.

Richard

Hi Richard,
This is your best shot.
Great IQ, good DOF ( you got a bit lucky at 5.6 and in hindsight you should have had ISO of 400 and aperture of 6.3 or 7.1 to ensure the tip of beak is in focus), lovely low POV and great perch and BG.
The only thing I would suggest is to reduce the slight magenta cast. If you have CS5 or above, just go to color balance and decrease the magenta towards green by 2 or 3 points, (also can do it in LR4)
Well done,
Gail

That's a sweet image Richard. I love the IQ, nice smooth background, head turn, eye highlight and composition.

Nice DOF, good looking back pose and nice detail overall. Just the right amount of sharpening you used on the eye. Very well done.

One of the things that makes birds so beautiful to look at is the gorgeous patterning of their feathers, and this shot really shows that off. Very sharp and no harsh edges. Nice work.
